Hold the bowl lightly on your fingertips and tap the side gently, just below the rim, with the leather-wrapped end of the striker.

Run the striker slowly around the outside of the rim, with light, even pressure.

Yes. Hold the bowl lightly on your fingertips, tap the side gently with the leather-wrapped end of the striker, then circle the outside of the rim slowly with the wooden side. Finding the right pressure and speed can take a little practice.
