It’s a great exercise to set goals, to dream, and to plan for new and exciting experiences. It helps us imagine a future where we’re productive, fulfilled, adventurous.
Suddenly, we replay every conversation and comment over and over in our minds. We scrutinize facial expressions and modify our appearance or behavior. And for what? So that others may view us favorably. It makes us feel good and valuable to be liked and approved of.
While some negativity is normal and natural, bad thoughts can spell even worse news for some of us. Letting them proliferate can increase our risk of suffering from anxiety, depression, panic, and mood swings. And in general, it’s just terrible for our self-esteem.
